To me, spring cleaning can be bittersweet. The “ugh” factor of not really wanting to start the process is the bitter part. But, the sweet comes when I’m all finished, and my closet sparkles with my favorite staples! That part totally makes it all worthwhile!
Over the years, I’ve developed a sort of system to cleaning out, and re-organizing, my closet. Now, it may only be February, but let’s be honest. Who wants to be inside, sorting through piles of clothes and shoes when the sunshine makes its debut next month? Not me!
If you agree with my fashionably early approach to spring cleaning, then these tips are for you!
Yes, everything. It would be impossible to have an effective spring cleaning session if you don’t start with a clean slate!
- Do I remember the last time I wore this?
- Does this fit me?
- Will I wear this again in the near future?
If you answered “no” to one or more of these questions, toss it!
There are two ways of going about this, so pick whichever one feels more natural for you:
- As you sort, arrange your garments [neatly] in your should-be empty closet/drawers
- Make piles of what goes where, and then arrange your wardrobe accordingly
Fold and package the items you won’t be keeping. What you do after that is up to you!
Tip: I like to donate my goods to local charities who are in need. Check Google to find out where the closest clothing/goods drop-off is to you!
