How To Make Time For You

Here are some tips to help you find time for you, and to help minimize the chaos in your life!

For most women today, the word “busy” is an understatement! Between careers, family, and trying to find that perfect work/life balance, it can be a task in itself to create “me-time.” But, with that being said, it is more important than ever to make sure you’re taking care of yourself! 

Here is a simple, three-step guide I try to follow to make it happen!

Make a schedule

Set a time for your “me-time” on your calendar. If you have to, put it in multiple places (the fridge, your phone, a post-it, etc.). Making time for yourself is no different than making time for other priorities. Treat it that way, you deserve it! However, remember to be flexible with this one. If an opportunity presents itself to indulge in some unexpected me-time, seize that moment! 

Disconnect

This is painful to say, but: turn off that smartphone! Or, put it on silent-mode far, far away from wherever you are (in the next room works). If you are on vacation, be on vacation. If you prepare ahead of time, no one should need to bother you except for actual emergencies, (like running out of tequila). After you separate yourself from technology, engage in something you can focus on, whether it’s reading, yoga, or even watching a movie!

Do your thing

I think it is SO important to have your own thing going on! The healthiest relationships, whether they’re work or personal, are the ones where people don’t spend every waking minute of every day together. Have your own passions, enjoy your own hobbies, and drink YOUR favorite type of wine (I prefer reds). Whatever it is, find it and indulge once in a while. After all, what’s a good bottle of wine if you can’t drink it?!

Only you can do it

This is probably the most difficult thing to remember and keep in mind, but here it is: you are the only person who can allow yourself that precious, sacred “me-time.” Once you figure out what it is that recharges you, make it a priority and then do it! Anyone can find a half hour to nap, take a walk, read a new book, (crack open the tequila), or add to a page in a scrapbook!
